RetroBlog: “3 Rotor 3 Turbos” FD3S

rx7

It is not uncommon to swap an FD3S with a 20B-REW nor even in early 2000’s. However, it is a different story when it comes to triple turbo specifications and Grand Slam PRO Machida was the creator of this amazing tune. All turbines are HKS GT2835R (I ran one of these in my old R32 RB20DET and it was an amazing turbo delivering power at a high range of rpms).

Due to the exhaust layout, the three turbines are arranged vertically through the original exhaust manifold. The engine body has been ported with an emphasis on intermediate torque, and of course talking about RX7’s apex seals were replaced.

Toyota Crown Wagon S80

It is true that after a long time without writing the blog, writing interesting topics is not easy at all. More certain is that the content search today is much more easy that never was before, today everything is available to the user with minimal searching through the deservedly popular Google.

For me telling the truth, today is no longer as it was yesterday, I no longer live in that wonderful place called Japan. Here in Spain things do not have the same interest for me personally but certainly not much less in content of interest when about the r32taka refers.

It does not mean what I just mentioned, I do have thousands of photos, some of them arbitrary about anything related to Japan. Among them I found this Toyota Crown Wagon S80.

I remember having found it in the lakes around Mount Fuji during an excursion to watch closely the volcano. I think it was the last day of stay around Mount Fuji when being in the parking lot drinking coffee I spot this Toyota Crown.

The Crown has essentially the American spirit of the wagon of seventies American Wagons, not only by the yellow inspired by Mooneyes but also for the wheels and tyres. It has not even reduced the ground clearance.

The double rear wiper is a very particular detail in this model, but certainly is still more, the rear registration plate holder saying clearly: think in yellow.

Without a single JDM detail on this Crown, I think the owner managed to fully reflect his style and make it totally personal.

Sometimes when internet is full of similar cars with the same style, I think there must be a place where all car lovers have to appear. In this case I think this Crown deserves a place in the internet. The owner had a clear idea about his project, and has also managed to materialize it without a super economic cost. Cars are made to enjoy and customize them but not everyone has to follow the same patterns and this Toyota owner make a perfect example.

Small cars, are you in?

In most countries specially America and also Europe small cars are not too popular when talking about performance, racing or today’s stance movement. But when we talk about small cars, and as many other times, Japan made again a revolution back in the days.

Japanese case is the most obvious, when car space is reduced, the need of a small car increase at the top list. As you well know Japan also have special regulation for super small cars best known as Kei Cars, but today is not the case. Continue reading “Small cars, are you in?”

Nara Street Meeting -Hari Terrace- Part 1

The past Saturday I decided to head road to Nara to reach the Hari Inter parking which is located around 20 kilometers away of the city full of temples and bamboo’s. The trip from Kyoto takes around one hour and a half so I couldn’t miss the chance.

When I reached the place I was very surprised, the parking was full, full of awesome cars of all kind of styles. Maybe the most popular now is the USDM but is very common to spot real JDM cars and classics at any meeting. And as read in the Hari TRS webpage there were a total amount of 510 cars from 9pm to 1am approximately.

I couldn’t even be able to take pictures of all the cars that called my attention during the night but will make a couple of post to post as many photos as I will be able to do.

Here to start.

Player’s Night. Meeting.

Last Saturday we have such a great night. I attended my first meeting in the city. It wasn’t easy to find the place but finally we manage thanks to Shota. I couple of calls solve my problem. There were a bunch of well done car as Japan used to be. Maybe due to some other meeting celebrated in Osaka this one was that big. But people of Kyoto is so friendly and the have so good taste for cars.

That time when the JDM was a must is now like the old days, the Hawaii USDM style is on its maximum explosion and super fitting wheels are all around.

A was looking that DC2 for longtime, so clean and simple, specially being yellow.

Of course the JDM is not forgotten in Japan, for classic cars like this Hakosuka is the best way to suit your car. Watanabes are best choice for this cars.

I was surprised to found at 3 Hakosuka’s in the meeting, normally you don’t use to find them in the street, but owners know when to enjoy the cars.

Lots of Civic’s. Civic is still one of the most popular cars in the country despite the prices they are reaching. Specially for the SIR versions.

This Spoon livered Civic takes most of the people attention, maybe because the livery but I think it remembers to the Gran Turismo a lot. Probably one of my favorites in the meeting.

I just wish you could hear that kenmeri, both idling and running, probably one of the best kenmeri’s in the area.

This EK9 was on the way to being transformed into a USDM version of the Civic, still some work to do but he almost has it.

USDM is all over the Kansai area and Civic’s are best choice to turn your daily into a nice car. Tow hook’s, american plate holders and rear window stickers are a must lately.

Now I just can wait until next month for the next meeting to see how’s up for having a good time. Enjoying with your friends and family no matter what time is it.
